Get ready to get your adrenaline on. This place has multiple attractions. Some not for the faint of heart. Like the hundred foot free fall or the tower zip lines. But don’t worry, there’s plenty to do for everyone. Maybe your mildly adventurous. There are two sets of rock walls, one even plunges into a pool. And some smaller rope courses as well as lower zip lines. Oh, You’re looking for just a casual day outdoors. No problem. You can check out a kayak or paddle board Head down to the Catawba River for a nice float. Or pick up one of the bikes and have a nice ride on one of the many trails. If you just want to relax. Towards the end of the day they start playing great live music. With the music, a little food and beverage and the water running in the background. It all makes for a great end of the day.

Tips & Tricks-
1) Book your whitewater rafting tour right away. You can book the first available tour at no cost. If you want to book more at the same time it’s extra. But once you complete the ride you can rebook at no charge.

2) It’s gets hot 🥵 in the summer. There are no fans. Shade – Sunscreen – WATER!!!

3) They allow GoPro’s as long as they are securely mounted on the helmet. And you will be checked at quite a few checkpoints.

PS. If any management happens to see this. First I want to say thank you so much for allowing GoPros to come in and record. That made this video possible. second, I would like to say the staff was extremely polite and very well trained. I felt safe with the multiple checkpoints. And the entire park was clean and staff well organized. If there were any improvements that I could see as an outsider. They would be. Fans Misting Fans even better. Especially up on the towers with your employees. But you’re doing an amazing job. Thank you!

Whitewater Rafting: Rapid Classes Demystified

Whitewater Rafting: Rapid Classes Demystified

Class I? Class II? III, IV, V?! What does it all mean?

Rapid ratings don’t seem simple, because they really aren’t. The American system of whitewater rapid ratings is subjective (for example, a class-V rapid on one river can be totally different from a class-V on another) and leaves a lot of room for interpretation. Further complicating things, a rapid’s rating DOES NOT vary by water level, even though water-level changes can have DRASTIC effects on the objective difficulty and hazards of a rapid.

Well don’t fret! In just a little more than a single minute, we’re going to show you a typical example of each rapid rating from West Virginia’s New and Gauley Rivers, and explain why it’s rated that way. (Just keep that whole water-level thing in mind though, okay?)

Ever been whitewater rafting? While on our 11-Day #Vanlife adventure, we had the chance to raft the Upper Pigeon River here in Hartford, Tennessee with an incredible outfitter – “Rafting In The Smokies.” They’re been doing this since 1978 and will absolutely show you and your family or friends a good time outside!

They are adventure experts that offer rafting, a zip line canopy tour, a ropes course, and a rock climbing wall! They’re locally owned and operated and believe that the best way to see nature is to get as close as possible. Every detail of their business reflects their philosophy of sustainable tourism.

The Pigeon River offers a thrilling ride, but doesn’t require expertise. The Class III and IV rapids are perfect for a beginner and yet still challenging enough for someone who rafts every chance they can get.

The U.S. National Whitewater Center is one of those places in Charlotte we can truly call home. We feel like the little bee girl in the video for Blind Melon’s “No Rain” as she sees a whole field of people in bee costumes. Our Subaru Outback is at home in the parking lot. The activities call to us and push us outside our comfort zones. The food and craft beer selections make our taste buds sing. And the evening music brings a calm to the end of a hectic day. This place has so much to do, you need to set realistic expectations. Each visit, choose a few activities – and you’ll be enjoying something new for time to come. If your visit is a single day opportunity, just make sure you get out on the world’s largest artificial whitewater river.

The Whitewater Center is a non-profit outdoor wonderland that opened to the public in 2006. In addition to the famed man-made whitewater river, a day pass can get you access to the flatwater kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, adventure courses, and zip lining. In 2019 they even added the area’s largest outdoor ice skating rink. Many single activities can be enjoyed for around . But the parking fee is all you need for entry to evening music, year-round festivals, and holiday celebrations. That includes events like the St. Patrick’s Green River Festival.
